NVIDIA features OpenThai 2.0 Legal in its AI Day Singapore recap

OpenThai 2.0 Legal — open-weight Thai legal LLM

On 23 September 2026 NVIDIA published its recap of AI Day Singapore on the company blog. In the section on partners across Southeast Asia building region-specific AI on the open Nemotron models, OpenThai 2.0 Legal is named.

What NVIDIA wrote

In Thailand, the Big Data Institute and iApp Technology, as members of the ThaiLLM Collaboration, are exploring Nemotron as a foundation model. With an initial focus on legal applications, iApp Technology is adapting Nemotron 3 Nano by fine-tuning OpenThai 2.0 Legal with Thai-language legal data using the NVIDIA NeMo framework. The model is released as open source for the Thai developer community and serves as the engine for Thanoy, the company's legal-assistant chatbot, which already serves approximately 43,000 users.

Why it matters

The same post lists work from across the region: AI Singapore's SEA-LION model family, Singapore's HTX, Malaysia's YTL AI Labs, Vietnam's Viettel AI and FPT Smart Cloud, and Brunei's Antrique. An open Thai legal model being placed in that company means the work the OpenThai community has been doing is now visible at the regional level, not only at home.

More important than the mention is what NVIDIA chose to highlight: the model is open source and in real use, not a research result that ends on paper.

  • An open-weight Thai legal model, 30B MoE with about 3B active parameters per token, built on NVIDIA Nemotron-3-Nano-30B-A3B with NVIDIA NeMo through all three stages: CPT, SFT and GRPO.
  • Recalls Thai statutes from memory and answers with the law name and section number as JSON, ready to drop into a RAG pipeline.
  • Runs on a single 24 GB GPU with NVFP4.
  • The engine behind Thanoy (thanoy.ai), a legal-assistant chatbot with about 43,000 users, and recently made available through TH-AI Passport as well.

Thank you

Dr. Kobkrit Viriyayudhakorn, the OpenThai project lead, wrote on the day the post came out that it gave him goosebumps, and summed it up in one line: Thai AI, built by Thais, for Thais.

The model exists thanks to the iApp Technology team, the Artificial Intelligence Entrepreneur Association of Thailand (AIEAT), the Big Data Institute (BDI) under the ThaiLLM Collaboration, NVIDIA for Nemotron and NeMo, and Siam AI Cloud for the GPUs. Thank you all.
